Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Atticus Administration?

Who is Atticus Administration?

Atticus Administration is the neutral, third-party administrator hired to manage the terms of the $16.75 million settlement between the Office of the New York State Attorney General (OAG) and DoorDash. Atticus is responsible for informing Dashers of their eligibility for repayment, processing their claims, and answering their questions about the settlement.

When and how can I file a claim?

Why am I getting notices about the DoorDash settlement?

The OAG has determined that you may qualify for payment in the DoorDash settlement. You appear to be one of the New York delivery workers (Dashers) who did not receive the full tips they were due for deliveries made between May 2017 and September 2019. The settlement will return a portion of these unpaid tips to eligible workers. Atticus has been notifying Dashers by text, email, or mail to alert them to their eligibility and let them know how to get their payments.

How do I know this isn’t a scam?

Atticus is the legitimate administrator for this settlement. Read the settlement information sheet, OAG’s press release, and the assurance of discontinuance on OAG’s website to learn more about the settlement and the investigation.

You can also visit our website at www.AtticusAdmin.com to verify Atticus’s legitimacy.

If you receive any suspicious communications about this settlement, call Atticus at 1-800-270-1039 or OAG at 212-416-8700 to verify the communication before you share any personal information.

Beware of anyone, including legal professionals or agents, who offers to help you get your payment, especially for a fee. You do not have to be represented by or pay anyone to make a claim, qualify for settlement funds, or receive money. If anyone tries to charge you or says that only they can file your claim, immediately report them to Atticus at 1-800-270-1039 or to OAG at 212-416-8700.

How and where did you get my information?

Under the terms of the settlement agreement between OAG and DoorDash, OAG securely shared information about all eligible Dashers with Atticus. The document that describes these terms is called an assurance of discontinuance (AOD). The OAG directed Atticus to send notices, process claims, and distribute payments.

Under the New York State Personal Privacy Protection Law, any personal information you provide will be used only to process your payment. Atticus will keep your information in a secure database only long enough to process your payment and report your payment to OAG. If you have concerns about submitting your personal information, contact OAG’s Labor Bureau at 212-416-8700.

What is this settlement about?

The OAG investigated DoorDash and found that DoorDash misled consumers and Dashers about how Dashers were paid. From May 2017 through September 2019, some Dashers working in the state of New York did not receive their full tips. DoorDash did not admit to OAG’s findings, but agreed to settle the investigation.

The settlement terms, which DoorDash and OAG agreed to in February 2025, are described in the assurance of discontinuance (AOD). Under these terms, DoorDash agreed to put in place:

• a $16.75 million fund to pay affected Dashers

• new non-monetary benefits for current and former Dashers

Who will receive payments from the settlement?

Payments will be given to eligible Dashers. An eligible Dasher is someone who did both of the following:

• completed deliveries on the DoorDash app as a DoorDash Dasher in New York City between May 2017 and September 2019

• did not receive the full customer tip in addition to the amount that DoorDash offered to pay the Dasher when they accepted the job

The OAG makes the final decision in reasonably determining which Dashers are eligible to receive payments and how much they receive.

What if I think I’m an eligible Dasher but I do not receive a notice?

You may not have received notice for a number of reasons, including:

• Atticus Administration does not have your complete or correct contact information.

• Your unpaid tips during the affected period totaled less than $10. Your tips during this time must total $10 or more for you to receive a settlement payment.

• Your tips and payment during this period were not affected by DoorDash’s misrepresentations of how you were paid.

Call Atticus Administration at 1-800-270-1039 to verify your contact information or confirm whether you collected enough unpaid tips during the affected period.

If none of these reasons apply, and you believe you qualify but Atticus cannot confirm your eligibility: You can submit documentation to prove that you were a Dasher making deliveries through the DoorDash app during the relevant period in New York and that you did not receive customers’ full tips. Atticus will work with OAG to review your information.

This documentation must include verification of your identity and delivery records, or other supporting documentation that will help confirm your eligibility.

What benefits does the settlement provide?

DoorDash is paying $16.75 million to return unpaid tips to Dashers who were affected by DoorDash’s pay model between May 2017 and September 2019.

DoorDash also must ensure the following for Dashers who use DoorDash’s app to deliver food in New York state.

DoorDash’s pay model will ensure both of the following:

• Dashers will receive the full tips that customers pay them.

• A customer tip will have no effect on the amount DoorDash pays a Dasher on that delivery.

DoorDash will maintain disclosures about its pay model for both Dashers DoorDash customers:

• There will be a hyperlink or something similar to easily get this information about the pay model on the Dasher mobile app.

• This information will be easily visible on the DoorDash website too.

Before accepting a delivery order, a Dasher will see all the following information in the mobile app:

• Estimated distance to complete the order

• The minimum pay the Dasher will receive from DoorDash if they accept the order

DoorDash will provide an accessible disclosure to Dashers explaining what a Dasher will see in their mobile application before the Dasher chooses to accept a delivery order.

For each past delivery, current and former Dashers will be able to see their Dash History. This is the breakdown between the Dasher’s total payment by DoorDash and the total tip paid by their customer.

• Dashers will be able to see this information on the app for deliveries within the past five months (but for no more than 200 delivery sessions).

• DoorDash will save Dash History and relevant delivery information (date; time; approximate distance, if available; and merchant name) for four years and will make that information available to Dashers upon request.

For Dashers not subject to New York City’s requirements for minimum pay rates:

DoorDash will provide each Dasher an itemized summary of pay information after they complete a delivery session. A session starts when a Dasher makes themselves available to receive orders through the Dasher App and ends when they are no longer able to receive orders through the Dasher App. For each delivery made, the Dasher will be able to see at least the following information:

• base pay

• amount of compensation paid by DoorDash, including a breakdown of promotional pay, bonuses, or any other portion of DoorDash’s compensation other than base pay and tips

• amount of the consumer tip on the order

DoorDash will provide an accessible disclosure explaining how Dashers can get this information.

What must I do to make a claim?

You must submit a valid claim form to receive a payment.

How much will I receive?

To calculate how much is due to each eligible Dasher, OAG reviewed the data for all deliveries during the affected period. This included all of the following:

• “guaranteed payment” from DoorDash

• amount of consumer tip given for the delivery

• amount DoorDash paid for that delivery

The OAG calculated the amount that the Dasher should have been paid on the delivery as: the “guaranteed” payment plus tip, minus the amount DoorDash actually paid.

The actual amount each eligible Dasher receives will be a percentage of the entire settlement fund. This percentage depends how much money is available and how much is due to each Dasher. The OAG will not award any individual Dasher less than $10.

If you would have received less than $10, you will not be eligible for a distribution and will not receive a notice. If you are eligible, you must submit a claim to receive your payment.

When and how will I receive my settlement payment?

Dasher payments are being paid continuously as Atticus receives claims, within 15-30 days of receiving a valid claim form.

When you submit your claim form, choose how you would like to receive your payment:

• ACH transfer

• Zelle

• PayPal

• Venmo

• Virtual Mastercard

• physical check

I am an undocumented immigrant in the U.S. Am I allowed to file a claim and receive payment?

Yes. If you are an eligible Dasher, you are allowed to file a claim regardless of your immigration status.

If I have outstanding liens or claims against me, can that change my payment amount?

Yes. If you owe money for New York child support or other judgments, these amounts may be subtracted from your award amount. If this is the case, you will receive a notice from the appropriate New York agency. You will have 14 days to respond to that notice.

What if an eligible Dasher is deceased or incapable of acting on his/her behalf?

To claim payment owed to a Dasher who is deceased or incapable of acting on their own behalf, contact Atticus by September 30, 2025. You may get an extension to file all the necessary forms.

If the eligible Dasher was living in NY state at the time of death or incapacitation, these are the requirements:

You will be required to complete a representative affirmation, receipt, and indemnity agreement (called a “representative affirmation”), which Atticus will provide upon request, if one of the following circumstances applies to you:

• You are the executor of the estate of a deceased eligible Dasher and you provide a current certificate of letters testamentary (full or preliminary) confirming your status as executor of the estate, and a certified copy of the death certificate.

• You are the court-appointed administrator of the estate where the deceased eligible Dasher died without a will, and you provide a certified copy of the certificate of letters of administration (temporary, limited, or full letters) confirming your status as administrator, and a certified copy of the death certificate.

• You have been appointed voluntary administrator of a “small estate” – where the gross value of the decedent’s personal property, including the amount due the decedent from the DoorDash settlement, is less than $50,000. You must provide a certified copy of the small-estate certificate allowing you to collect this asset as voluntary administrator, and a certified copy of the death certificate.

• The eligible Dasher is incapacitated or otherwise unable to act on their own behalf, and you have been appointed guardian or conservator or hold a valid power of attorney (POA) to act with respect to such claims, and you provide a valid POA or a valid order and judgment appointing you as guardian or conservator of the eligible Dasher.

If you are in one of these situations, ask Atticus for a copy of the representative affirmation form.

If the eligible Dasher was not living in New York state at the time of their death or incapacitation, requirements may be different. For more information, contact Atticus.

For more information on what else you should do if the eligible Dasher died in New York state, contact the surrogate’s court in the county of residence at the time of death. Some sources of information:
